It was a true pleasure to recently trade the administrative duties for the serene greens of the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club. I had the distinct honor of participating in the 70th Birthday Tournament in celebration of a remarkable individual, Engr. Andrew La’ah Yakubu, FNSE, FNIEE, FNSChE, JP.

The banner behind me perfectly captured the spirit of the day: “PARTEE TIME. JOIN US TO SWING EASY AND PARTY HARD!” And indeed, that’s exactly what we did. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with camaraderie and the shared love for the game of golf. It’s always a privilege to connect with fellow enthusiasts and celebrate life’s milestones in such a magnificent setting.

The tournament, held on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, saw participants teeing off from early morning until midday, all coming together to honor Engr. Yakubu. His 70th birthday is a testament to a life well-lived, marked by significant contributions in his field and undoubtedly, cherished relationships. It was inspiring to be part of an event that brought so many people together to celebrate him.

As someone who deeply values community and excellence, I found the tournament to be a perfect blend of competitive sport and warm fellowship. Moments like these remind us of the importance of taking time to celebrate our elders, our mentors, and those who have paved the way.
