Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi Champions Global Road Safety at the 2026 TRB Annual Meeting

Washington, D.C. – Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and a distinguished voice in international transit policy, recently participated in the 105th Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The TRB Annual Meeting is the world’s premier gathering of transportation professionals, researchers, and policymakers. This year’s event brought together thousands of experts from across the globe to discuss the future of sustainable mobility, infrastructure resilience, and the integration of AI in traffic management.

Engaging with Global Leaders

Throughout the week-long event, Dr. Oyeyemi engaged in high-level plenary sessions, including the Chair’s Plenary, which featured key insights from top officials of the U.S. Department of Transportation. His presence underscored the importance of cross-continental collaboration in achieving “Vision Zero” goals—the global initiative to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries.

Mentorship and Professional Networking

A hallmark of Dr. Oyeyemi’s visit was his engagement with the next generation of transportation professionals. He was seen prominently with various delegations, including a large contingent of Nigerian professionals and students (pictured in their vibrant orange commemorative shirts).

“Innovation in transportation is not just about better roads; it is about better ideas and the people who dream them,” Dr. Oyeyemi remarked during a networking session. “Being at TRB allows us to bring the best global practices back home while sharing the unique challenges and successes we have experienced in Africa.”

Exploring the Future of Transit

From the massive TRB Exhibits hall to specialized technical sessions, Dr. Oyeyemi explored the latest advancements in:

  • Smart Infrastructure: Real-time monitoring systems to reduce urban congestion.
  • Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Technology: Enhancing communication between vehicles and road sensors.
  • Policy Reform: Developing frameworks that prioritize pedestrian safety in developing economies.

Dr. Oyeyemi’s continued involvement in these international forums ensures that Nigeria and the wider African region remain at the forefront of the global conversation on safe, efficient, and modern transportation.
